You are here:

The Scottish Hernia Centre offers a comprehensive service from diagnosis through to surgery for all hernia patients

With traditional surgical methods, up to 10% of hernias can recur after surgery. However, with modern techniques and in the experienced hands of surgeons at the Scottish Hernia Centre, recurrence rates of less than 1% can be expected.

Research also shows that the best operation results, the quickest recovery to full activity and the lowest rates of recurrence are found in specialised hernia clinics.

Consultants at the Scottish Hernia Centre are highly experienced in all types of hernia repair surgery. They are committed to using the latest surgical techniques including conventional and laparoscopic repair in order to ensure less pain, rapid recovery and very low recurrence rates. The surgeons are supported by nursing staff dedicated to providing the highest standards of care.

How do I arrange an appointment to be seen at the Scottish Hernia Centre?

Usually the first step is to obtain a referral to the Centre from your doctor. However, this is not absolutely necessary and we are happy to see you directly. However, some insurance companies prefer that patients are referred by their own General Practitioner.

You can make a direct appointment by contacting Outpatient Bookings at Ross Hall hospital.

Richard Molloy at the Scottish Hernia Centre has consultation appointments each day Monday & Friday at Ross Hall.

During your initial consultation, a full medical history is taken. You will undergo a thorough physical examination. We will discuss options to treat your hernia and you will be able to ask questions specific to your case.

Paying for treatment

Patients with insurance with all the major insurers (BUPA, AXA-PPP, Aviva, PruHealth, WPA, Cigna and most others) are covered to undergo surgery at the Centre.

For patients without healthcare insurance, consultation can be confirmed at the time of booking. A dedicated page outlining the costs of consultation and hernia surgery is available here.

The Centre also offers very attractive all-inclusive fixed price packages for those that do not have medical insurance.

The BMI Ross Hall medical credit card, lets you spread the cost in affordable monthly instalments. To help with the cost of your treatment we'll even give you six months interest free credit and the BMI Card also offers patients the opportunity to benefit from 0% finance.
